"The ability to follow your passions."

Where are you from and how did you end up at Nosto?

I was born and raised in Helsinki. Before Nosto I was working as Head of Marketing at Startup Sauna (the biggest Nordic accelerator program for top-notch tech teams) and coincidentally the Chairman of the Board of Nosto was one of the coaches in the accelerator program. He suggested I have a chat with the founders of Nosto and a month later I joined the team. This was in early 2013.

What do you do at Nosto?

My position has changed a few times, but I currently work as the Senior Marketing Manager. My main responsibilities are; platform marketing, partner marketing and branding. I also currently oversee social media and email marketing and generic campaigns such as seasonal webinars and their PR.

What does your normal day look like?

It varies a lot day to day! One day I might be planning and executing on global platform marketing activities with the counterpart sitting across the globe, and the next day I might be setting up a dedicated email campaign for a specific project.

What has been your career path at Nosto so far?

I was the first person in the marketing team and my role has evolved majorly since those days. I was "promoted" to Senior Marketing Manager at the beginning of the year, with more responsibilities than ever before.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I love the fact that I get to both plan AND execute in my role. Often teams become so big that there are clearly people who plan and create strategies, but fortunately for me I get to work across the board.

If you could reinvent your job title, what would it be?

Ha! I'd probably be the "go-to-girl". Seems like half the time people slack or email me stuff like "Nicka can you handle" or "Nicka, I don't know how to...", "Nicka, I can't find...", "NIcka, can you help me with..." :D

What is it like to be part of Nosto?

It honestly is awesome! I have a quite clear line between work and post-work life and those are kept separate, but coming to work is always such a pleasure. You get to surround yourself with smart people and loads of bad jokes. What's not to love?

What’s the coolest part of working at Nosto?

The ability to follow your passions.

"The most international and friendliest team you can imagine."

Where are you from and how did you end up at Nosto?

I spent a year backpacking while having an early career break and when I returned home I started to look for new challenges. I already had a few interesting opportunities lined up, when I heard about Nosto from a former colleague and who said that they were hiring. At that time, Nosto was in stealth-mode so no one really knew what they were building. I heard their pitch and business plan and by the end of the meeting was already confident that I wanted to be involved - simply because the business idea was awesome and founders had very impressive track record. I dropped all conversations with other companies that very day and luckily they hired me a couple of weeks later. It's been the best professional decision of my life.

What do you do at Nosto?

I'm a product manager and responsible of our ad product, revenue and development plus product trainings and employee on-boardings.

What does your normal day look like?

Extremely busy but also rewarding. I map myself small targets or milestones for every day, week, month, quarter and year to keep myself focused as multi-tasking is a necessity. In practice about half of my time goes to coaching and teaching team members and managing my own product area, the other half I try to use for projects and research, which make the product and our team better, accelerating our growth.

What has been your career path at Nosto so far?

One of the most attractive part of Nosto is the overall growth and pace, which allows people to grow within the company. I've myself built the support processes, while in the very beginning working as the only technical support person, then leading a team of a dozen account managers, while now I work in research and development team as a product manager.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Innovation and continuous learning. It's a blessing and a burden really, but comes natural when you're building a product for an industry [e-commerce] that grows way faster than general retail.

If you could reinvent your job title, what would it be?

(Ask) Jeeves.

What is it like to be part of Nosto?

Demanding, rewarding and I know this is a cliché but also fun! If you're totally new to digital retail and online marketing, you'll learn in a matter of days or weeks the same what takes months in many other organisations. Everyone at Nosto loves tongue-in-cheek humour and have that right spark in their eye, so while the business itself is serious, people also know how to have a good laugh and we have it often. The amount of custom Slack emojis tell the story.

What’s the coolest part of working at Nosto?

The clientele and partners are global and Nosto itself has a very international and friendly team.. Every third person is born in a different country and just in the Helsinki team we have +10 nationalities, Finns being the minority and English the de facto language.

"It never gets boring!"

Where are you from and how did you end up at Nosto?

I´m originally from Hannover/Germany and I worked in the field of personalization before. Through recommendations (yes, seriously) I ended up at Nosto.

What do you do at Nosto?

I'm the Head of Business Development for the Central European Market.

What does your normal day look like?

Every day is different. Overall it´s about showing potential clients how great Nosto is in order to get them onboard. But it´s also thinking strategically about how to approach the market, how to work with partners, which events to attend, etc. So I´m working closely with other departments like Marketing and the Product Team.

What has been your career path at Nosto so far?

I started my Nosto journey as a Business Development Manager with tasks and responsibilities that developed quite a lot in a short period of time. Today I'm heading Business Development for the DACH region.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

I love it when merchants start using Nosto and are just super happy with the solution. That is the best feeling and why we are here.

If you could reinvent your job title, what would it be?

"Head Cheerleader"

What is it like to be part of Nosto?

Nosto is like a big international family. Although we are spread around different countries and offices and around different teams it feels like there are no borders. We are working hard together but also have lots of fun together during and after working hours.

What’s the coolest part of working at Nosto?

The coolest part of working at Nosto? Firstly, it´s an awesome product with constant innovation happening. Secondly, (because of the first answer) it never gets boring!

The right blend between Nordic sophistication, American competitiveness and a healthy dose of Berlin style fun

Where are you from and how did you end up at Nosto?

I have spent my life living abroad in various countries / regions including Japan, Russia and the Middle East. Prior to joining Nosto I was part of the internationalization team at Zalando in Berlin. We tackled the market entry to the Nordics which was an incredible opportunity.

What do you do at Nosto?

I am the General Manager for the North American market.

What does your normal day look like?

I get up at 4:30am and do a 15km run on the East River. It's important to be early in the office to align with European HQ on the most important matters so that's where I am headed next. Thankfully the role as GM in the US is extremely multi-faceted. From top down strategy to in-the-trenches execution it is all there. I will spend most of my day working with the team to increase the visibility of Nosto in the US market. Being close to the product team it is also a pleasure to support our clients on the product side. The evenings are filled with dinners, receptions and meet-ups. It is a fantastic way to get closer to the ecosystem while having a bit of fun at the same time.

What has been your career path at Nosto so far?

Nosto has provided amazing opportunities for me in the three years I have been part of the family. I started in the Customer Success Team which I later was fortunate enough to lead. An opportunity arose later on to take on the internationalization efforts in the North American market and move to New York City.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

The versatility and speed. The eCommerce ecosystem is constantly changing. This provides immense opportunity for any player able to match or exceed it's speed.

If you could reinvent your job title, what would it be?

Probably I would go for in-house entrepreneur. Opening a new international market requires a very specific mindset. It involves being completely open minded and having the ability to capitalize on local requirements - independent of existing company rulebooks or established ways of thinking. Speed and organisational excellence likewise is rewarded.

What is it like to be part of Nosto?

It is just the right blend between Nordic sophistication, American competitiveness and a healthy dose of Berlin style fun.

What’s the coolest part of working at Nosto?

The freedom to execute according to your own style.
